Het is al een tijd bekend dat het immens populaire Angry Birds verfilmd zou gaan worden, maar vandaag weten we weer iets meer. Sony Pictures Entertainment mikt op een release in de zomer van 2016. Op 1 juli 2016 zou de film namelijk in de bioscoop te zien moeten zijn.
De film zal volledig 3D zijn en zal geproduceerd worden door John Cohen, welke onder andere verantwoordelijk is voor Despicable Me. David Maisel zal de rol van uitvoerend producent op zich nemen. Ook hij is een bekende in Hollywood, hij was onder andere verantwoordelijk voor Iron Man.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed heeft laten weten uiterst tevreden te zijn met de keuze om Sony als partner te nemen voor de film.
