Call of Duty is op het moment nog steeds een populaire franchise, maar het lijkt er dus op dat deze populariteit flink aan het dalen is. Het toevoegen van bepaalde skins is veel spelers een doorn in het oog. Het gros zit namelijk helemaal niet te wachten op Beavis & Butthead, Ghostface of Nicki Minaj. Of wellicht nog erger: een rollercoaster-wapen dat rechtstreeks uit Walibi ontsnapt lijkt te zijn. Het lijkt er nu op dat Treyarch deze kritiek ter harte gaat nemen, aldus Creative Director Miles Leslie in een gesprek met IGN:
“We’re going to try to calibrate that as we move forward, and we take that feedback seriously. But again, we are trying to make sure that all fans feel represented in the game and figuring out that tight balance is something we’re paying attention to.”
Natuurlijk zullen er ook spelers zijn die wel gek zijn op zulke skins, ook daar zal Treyarch rekening mee blijven houden.
“We always try to make sure that we are trying to touch the widest audience. I’ve had the pleasure of working on Call of Duty now for almost 20 years, and we’re constantly looking at ways to push into different audiences and fans, and that’s what you saw with that; there are fans that really love it.”
Het feit dat Battlefield 6 vooralsnog geen skins, zoals eerdergenoemde, lijkt te gaan aanbieden en het succes van de bèta, heeft wellicht iets te maken met dit nieuwe inzicht. De tijd zal het leren. Feit is wel dat er dit najaar een vernieuwde strijd tussen Call of Duty en Battlefield gaat losbarsten. Welke kant ga jij kiezen?
